Hong Kong officials take measures to ensure the transportation of goods supplied to Hong Kong.

(Fighting against COVID-19) Hong Kong officials take measures to ensure that materials supplied to Hong Kong are transported to Hong Kong.

China news agency, Hong Kong, February 15 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on the 15th that in order to ensure the smooth arrival of goods from the mainland of China, the SAR government is carrying out relevant work at full speed, including recruiting more cross-border drivers and studying water transport schemes, and is studying solutions with the mainland on the shortage of cross-border drivers.

On the same day, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor met with the media at the headquarters of the SAR Government before attending the Executive Council, and made the above remarks when answering a reporter’s question.

She pointed out that the supply of materials to Hong Kong is an important issue of concern to the central authorities and related to the people of Hong Kong. For decades, the state has always cared about the people of Hong Kong and ensured the daily needs of the people of Hong Kong, especially the continuous supply of fresh food to Hong Kong. The SAR Government has set up a special team to deal with the recent infection of cross-border truck drivers in Covid-19, which has caused some delays or lags in cross-border freight transport between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that the current work carried out by the SAR government at full speed includes: recruiting more drivers and inviting drivers who are not at risk of infection to participate in cross-border cargo transportation; Ensure that cross-border drivers "check once a day" and use the rapid antigen test kit to carry out cross-border work only if the test result is negative; We are also studying the water transport scheme and contacting the shipping company to see if we can transport mainland materials to Hong Kong by water.

She also revealed that the Secretary for Transport and Housing of the SAR Government, Chen Fan, will explain to the public the supply of materials for Hong Kong, and is studying solutions to the problem of insufficient cross-boundary drivers with the Mainland. The SAR Government hopes to protect people’s daily needs while fighting the epidemic, and appeals to people not to be overly anxious.

In addition, a spokesman for the Hong Kong SAR Government said on the 15th that the supply of fresh food imported from the mainland gradually picked up on the 14th. Some cross-boundary truck drivers in Hong Kong tested positive for Covid-19 at Man Kam To Port, which led to the need for prevention and disinfection at the port, and the transportation of fresh food was temporarily blocked. The Shenzhen Municipal Government and the Hong Kong SAR Government extended the customs clearance at the port until the early hours of the morning, allowing fresh food trucks to return to Hong Kong smoothly.

The spokesman pointed out that according to the latest information, as of midnight on the 14th, the supply of vegetables from the Mainland to Hong Kong had increased compared with the previous day, with a supply of about 7.14 million kilograms, returning to about 70% on weekdays, and the overall wholesale price of vegetables also dropped slightly. It is expected that the overall supply of vegetables will continue to stabilize. On the 14th, the overall volume of chilled poultry and meat transported from the mainland to Hong Kong was about 60% on weekdays. I believe that the supply will gradually increase after the smooth operation of the port. The supply of live pigs is as usual.
